SILAS AND JASMINE WALKED down the corridor heading toward their suites when Renee turned the corner, stared at them for a few seconds and stopped. “Mama. Daddy.” Her pitiful posture irritated Jasmine to no end.

“Hello, Princess,” Silas said as he brushed a kiss against her cheek.

Jasmine rolled her eyes, took a deep breath, as she looked up at Silas. “Should I restore her voice?

“That’s up to you. I’ve done my part.” Silas winked and walked away.

“Renee,” Jasmine snapped.

“Ma’am?” Renee jerked in shock as she heard Jasmine’s voice. Although Silas had restored her scratchy voice after one day of silence; Jasmine hadn’t talked to Renee since giving her the punishment. “I’m sorry, Mama.”

The scratchy texture in her voice grated on Jasmine’s nerves. “Come with me.” Jasmine moved in the direction of her suites, opened the door and waved Renee inside, lifting the ban Silas had put in place.

Renee looked relieved as she entered and stood in the foyer with a look of uncertainty.

“In the kitchen.” Jasmine strode ahead of her and went to the refrigerator. She pulled out the large pitcher of sweet tea, poured two glasses and placed them on the table.

When she sat down, she met Renee’s hopeful gaze and knew she would end the punishment within the next few minutes. First, they needed to talk.

“Tell me what you did to cause your punishment,” Jasmine said before drinking her tea.

Renee wet her lips. “I disrespected you by pointing my finger at you, raising my voice and talking to you like a child with no family or friends.”

That last part surprised Jasmine but it was accurate. “What else?”

Renee’s brows drew together. “Umm... I was mean and bossed Hawke around, behaved badly to Pack.”

Those were bad but not the other reason Renee’s punishment was so severe. Jasmine waited a few more moments until she realized Renee didn’t know and that saddened her.

“What, Mama?”

“You hurt me.”

Renee’s eyes widened and then filled as she reached for Jasmine’s hand.

Jasmine allowed her to take it and met her gaze. “As your mother, your actions cut deeper than most. I don’t expect my children to ever treat me unkindly or with a lack of respect. It goes against everything I’ve ever taught you. Your emotional problems have nothing to do with it either, so don’t use that as an excuse.”

Renee nodded as tears rolled down her face.

“Your father would destroy anyone who did to me what you did, do you know why?” Jasmine asked, her voice neutral.

“Yes, Ma’am. He told me. It’s never tolerated because of your position in the Pack.”

“No. It’s never tolerated because I’m his mate. The mother of his pups and the love of his life. To disrespect me is to disrespect him and vice versa. We’re one. You cannot play one against the other and you tried to do that.”

Renee wiped her face with the back of her hand as she nodded. “I’m sorry about that. Daddy banned me from coming here, that’s never happened before. I panicked, didn’t know what to do.
